What's with all this winter weather, Oklahoma?

Yes, it's April, even late April, but as of 10:35 a.m. this morning at least 15 Oklahoma Mesonet stations had recorded low temperatures of 32 degrees or below.

All of those were in western and northwestern Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Panhandle. The lowest of the lows was 25.2 degrees at 8 a.m. at BoiseCity in the far western Panhandle.

"We had a few reports of some very light icing up near Fort Supply, just like a glaze on some elevated surfaces about 9 a.m.," said Michael Scotten senior forecaster with the National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office. "I think there's been a few snowflakes here and there, but we haven't had anything significant as far as accumulation."

"The roads weren't bad, but porches, trees and vehicles had ice on them," said Conyetta Lehenbauer, emergency manager for HarperCounty.

She added that at 11 a.m. there was still ice on the trees between Woodward and Fort Supply.

The Oklahoma Panhandle is included in the coverage area of the National Weather Service, Amarillo (Texas) Forecast Office. The Amarillo office had received a report from Slapout in the BeaverCounty of a light glaze of ice before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The Norman office said that widespread freezing temperatures are expected to affect much of Oklahoma on Wednesday morning.
