Coach Steve Gale’s sons, quarterback Mitchell and wide receiver Tyson, had a special connection Friday night that helped lead Alva to a 27-18 win over Blackwell.

Mitchell Gale completed 10-of-16 passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Six of those completions, 57 of the yards and two of the touchdowns went to Tyson. Alva had over 400 yards of total offense in the game.

The entire Alva offense caught fire in the win. Derek Lohmann rushed 18 times for 242 yards and two touchdowns, and Lewis Nighswonger had 20 carries for 106 yards.

“We had some kids who stepped up,” Steve Gale said.

*Alva gets Laney back: Trent Laney, Alva’s leading receiver from a year ago, played Friday after missing Alva’s season opener against Oklahoma Christian.

Laney had two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown in the game. He also had five tackles on defense from his cornerback position, as well as one forced fumble and one pass broken up.
