Tuttle: Q and A with Tanner Koons

Tanner Koons is a name that should be familiar to just about everyone in Tuttle. His older brother quarterbacked the team the past few seasons and his dad, Phil, is Tuttle’s head coach. This year Tanner makes the transition from receiver to quarterback as he continues to carry on the family’s legacy.

This is your first year as a starting quarterback, did you do anything special to prepare for it?

I went to seven on seven a lot. We always go to a team camp too. Outside of that I got up just about every morning at 5 a.m. and did Tiger Pride which is our conditioning program.

Is having your dad the head coach a lot of pressure?

I think I need to lead by example even if my dad wasn’t coaching so that doesn’t change much. That’s what I try to do. But the truth is it’s not much different than anyone else.

You guys lost a lot of players to graduation, what’s in store for Tuttle this year?

I think we can exceed expectations. We like it when people think we’re not going to be as good because that’s how it always seems to be what people talk about. We always rebound though. I think we’ll step up.
