Scrimmage story lines for Mustang, Yukon and the PC3

An intriguing week for scrimmages on the west side of the metro, with a few quarterback battles going on, among other things. Here’s a look at what to watch for (all of these take place Thursday):

Mustang Pigskin Preview with Putnam City West, McGuinness, Norman North, Midwest City, Lawton Ike, Lawton Mac and Altus, starts at 4 p.m. (here’s the full schedule)

Mustang story line: Checking in on the secondary. The Broncos graduated a lot of speed and experience back there, and they’re trying to find the right mix to solidify that group. Coach Ty Prestidge says he isn’t concerned about the quarterback competition between senior Jacinto Biorato (everybody calls him Cito) and sophomore Brandon Taylor. He wants to let them play it out.

PC West story line: The Pats’ secondary is intriguing because coach John Jensen is doing a lot with them, as I wrote earlier this week. They’ve got smart, athletic players back there, and they’re learning some complicated stuff on the fly. The offensive and defensive lines aren’t as far along as the skill players, and both will get a chance to pick it up against Altus, McGuinness and Lawton Mac.

Carl Albert, Edmond Memorial and Stillwater at Yukon, 4 p.m. (Starts with round-robin, JV at 5 p.m., then Memorial-Stillwater at 6, Yukon-CA at 7)
