Guthrie coach Rafe Watkins talks about the teams season-opening loss to McGuinness and their big game with fellow Class 5A power El Reno Friday night in the friendly confines of Jelsma Stadium.

Overall, did you think the McGuinness game was one of missed opportunities?
We dropped a touchdown pass and we had another wide open for a touchdown and we couldn’t get him the ball. We didn’t play well enough to win. There were some positive things though.

Speaking of positives, I thought given the circumstances of facing a great defense in his first game, Bryan Dutton did pretty well at quarterback for a true freshman?

Know what he had to face, a lot of kids might have gotten lost in that. As the game went a long he got more and more comfortable. He threw some good passes and some bad ones and we had some drops. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us but certainly the way he and the line played as the game went on were encouraging.
