Each week on the BOTR blog we’ll highlight some of the athletes from around the area who turned in strong performances over the previous week. Fans, coaches and athletes are encouraged to submit their nominations. Here’s a look at the first week’s installment.

Football Player of the Week
Ryan Spangler, QB, Bridge Creek:
Spangler averaged 30 yards per completion in a 70-6 win over Bethel. Spangler was 11 of 13 for 301 yards and four touchdowns.

Softball Player of the Week
Peyton Watson, Little Axe:
In a team loaded with inexperience, the junior is definitely one of the team leaders. She hit the game-tying two-run home run in the seventh that eventually led to a huge win against Purcell. Coach Mike Bread calls her the heart of the team.

Cross Country Runner of the Week
Katie Krepel, Kingfisher:
Kingfisher’s Katie Krepel finished second at this week’s Deer Creek Invitational with a time of 12:29.
