More with Derrick Allen of John Marshall...

A story like John Marshall’s Derrick Allen was needed after the week the Oklahoma high school sports scene went through.

Whether it was former OSSAA executive secretary Danny Rennels and all his trials and tribulations or the hazing incident in Holdenville, it was rough.

I chose Allen’s story because I really didn’t believe it at first. Almost like Allen couldn’t believe that his house was burned down, I couldn’t believe how casual he was about disclosing that type of information.

He was so cool and calm about it that it intrigued me even more. And after talking to coach Bruce Troxell following the Bears’ win against Centennial, it clinched it for me.

I met with Derrick and his mother, Glendora, last Monday night. Not all the goodies were able to fit into the story, so here are some extra nuggets:
