Ooh boy, it’s tough to miss this one. It really is. Is Kingfisher ready to take the district torch? Is Heritage for real after a 56-0 win? Ahh, hurts.
Heritage Hall (1-3, 0-1) vs. Kingfisher (3-1, 1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Kingfisher HS
Heritage (L, Casady; L, Weatherford; L, Davis; W, Alva)
Why the Chargers can win: Simple, the young kids are growing up. They’re getting comfortable going four quarters now. Sterling Shepard and Cale Courtney have made the transition from WR to QB and vice versa with little difficulty as of now. Everyone is on the same page.
Quote:
This is a big game for us. We want to show that last week wasn’t just a fluke. It’s a great test because they’re such a good team in our district.” – sophomore Barry Sanders Jr.
Kingfisher
Why the Yellowjackets can win: Because this date has been circled since last year when a 2-0 halftime lead turned into a 28-2 loss at Heritage. These players have been waiting for a shot…at their place. Logan Nault has filled in admirably since QB Derek Patterson has gone down.
Key matchup: Heritage run game vs. Kingfisher D. Like there could be any other key matchup. Kingfisher is about as physical as it comes. And if Sanders, Shepard and Marc Robinson can’t get a running game going, what will Heritage do? The passing game hasn’t been kind in the first four weeks.
The pick: Heritage 24, Kingfisher 20. Should be an excellent battle that I wish I could see. Alas, think Shepard is going to be the one Kingfisher doesn’t account for on a huge play that swings the game the Chargers’ way.
