Players of the Week: Norman Zone

Football

Jon Johnson, Norman North
Aside from being in on numerous tackles, the linebacker intercepted a pass and returned it to the 3-yard line in the T-Wolves’ loss to Mustang. The interception return led to a touchdown on the next play. Late in the game, Johnson got in some time with the offense and caught a 21-yard touchdown pass.

Others:

Scott Whitaker, Norman North
The receiver caught a 59-yard touchdown pass in his return to the field after missing a game because he dislocated his kneecap.

Chad Anderson, Norman
The senior quarterback connected on 9 of 14 passes in the Tigers’ loss to Edmond Memorial.

Cross country

Danielle Riley, Norman North
The junior placed first in the Southwestern Christian University Invitational. Her winning time in the 3,200 meter run was 13:26.

Others:

Dustin Barrier, Norman North
Barrier placed third at the Southwest Christian meet, running the 5K course in 17:32.

Kyle Wardwell, Norman North
Wardwell placed fourth in the Southwest Christian meet, running the 5K course in 17:35.

Note: Norman High did not compete in a cross country meet last week as the Edmond Pre-State meet was canceled.

Volleyball
Lexie Matthews, Norman North
Matthews led Norman North to a victory over Norman in the regular-season finale. The sophomore recorded 14 kills and four blocks.

Others:

Grace Valliere, Norman
Had a match-best eight blocks against Norman North.

Tori Thomas, Norman North
Had 12 digs for the T-Wolves against Norman.

Softball

Kayla Putnam, Norman North
Putnam pitched the T-Wolves to an 11-0 victory over US Grant at the Class 6A regional tournament.
