Norman's Johnson, Satterthwaite take individual titles at conference meet
Norman produced both individual winners in Tuesday’s Mid-State Conference Meet. One was thoroughly expected, the other far from it.
Megan Johnson, who is unbeaten against in-state competition, continued her dominating ways. The sophomore won the girls individual crown by 11 seconds over the runner-up and 23 seconds ahead of the third runner through. However, for the first time this season, Johnson didn’t post a sub-12 minute time on a two-mile course — but just barely. Johnson ran a 12:00.
Tanner Satterthwaite made it a Norman sweep with his stunning win in the boys race. Running on his home course, Satterthwaite posted his best time of the season on a 5K rout, 16:24. More impressively, he won the conference crown over Westmoore standout Toby Bothwell, who had placed first every race but once this season. Bothwell ran a 16:39 to place third. Edmond Memorial’s Eric Talbert was runner-up, nine seconds off of Satterthwaite.
Taylor Painter, runner-up in the girls race, led Westmoore to the team title. The Jags placed four runners in the top 10. Edmond Memorial and Norman each placed three runners in the top 10, but the Bulldogs won the team crown on the strength of putting all seven of their runners in the top 17.
