Game blog: Weatherford at Douglass

Sorry for the lack of updates. Tied at 7 here after Weatherford scores and Douglass answers. 4:11 remaining.

I hate to call out officials but Douglass just had a bad call go against them. Antyoun Smith had an apparent 64-yard TD run turned into a 63-yard run and a fumble after he fumbled AFTER he crossed the goalline. That’s what it looked like up here AND that’s what a replay from Weatherford’s webcast showed. (EDIT AFTER WATCHING VIDEO MYSELF: It was a MUCH closer call than I initially thought watching it live and hearing others’ reactions to watching the video. Still not convinced the call was the right one by it was really, REALLY close. One thing I do know is it was a heck of a play by Weatherford defender Ian Brennfoerder to knock the ball loose from Smith, regardless of whether it was just inside or just outside the end zone. Luckily, this call didn’t wind up deciding this game.)

We’re headed to the fourth here at DOuglass. Still no score. Douglass has the ball inside the Weatherford 40.

We’re to halftime here with no score. Douglass had the ball with a chance to score late but a fumble cost them 6 yards, then they ended the half with a 12-yard loss on what looked to be a halfback pass.

Here’s some halftime stats:

Rushing: Weatherford 10-19; Douglass 29-133
Passing: Weatherford 67-8-1-77; Douglass 1-4-1-8
Fumbles-lost: Weatherford 1-1; Douglass 3-0
Penalties: Weatherford 1-10; Douglass 5-41

Leading offensive players:
Weatherford:
Kale Sawatzky 2-24 receiving; 3-0 rushing
Douglass: Quinton Neil 8-61 rushing

The first half is coming to an end and Douglass is threatening, with the ball at the Weatherford 14, first down with 0:56 remaining.

Weatherford has a pretty productive drive going before Kale Sawatzky’s fumble gives the Trojans the ball back. The Trojans are around midfield as the first quarter ends. I’ve just been informed the game is being streamed onlin. Go to heritagefordok.com and click “Weatherford Football Live.”

Douglass’ drives down, getting 3 first downs before the drive stalls and the Trojans turn the ball over on downs. And on Weatherford’s first play of the drive, Kyle Barrios breaks off a 15-yard run. Douglass’ Corey Mitchell is shaken up on the play. Losing Mitchell would be a big loss for the Trojans’ defense. Mitchell gets up and walks off the field on his own. We’ll see if he returns/how quickly.
