Millwood playoff look-ahead
At the first of the season, I expected Millwood, Heritage Hall and Lincoln Christian to be the top three teams in 2A. It looked a little rough for that prediction through the first part of the season but it’s now looking like these three (and you have to include Davis in that group now) are looking like the tops.
For Millwoood, it hasn’t been easy. They were banged up early in the season, especially at running back, where Emilio Gatewood missed significant time early in the season. Then they lost linebacker Trayvon Henry, who might’ve been the best defensive player in the state, to suspension.
But Gatewood has reemerged as a capable threat on the ground and Millwood’s offense has taken off. scoring a combined 97 points the last two weeks.
Millwood (6-2, 4-1) has Centennial (3-5, 1-4) and Meeker (4-4, 2-3) on the schedule to close the season and it doesn’t figure the Falcons will slip to either of those teams and even if they did, wins over Little Axe and Lexington would five them any tiebreaker unless they slipped in both. District leader Jones has SeeWorth and Bethel remaining so they don’t figure to lose either, so Millwood appears basically locked in to the second spot in 2A-2.
