I love signing day. Love seeing the kids get their reward for all the hard work. Love seeing how proud the parents and coaches are of the kids. What can I say, I’m a softie at heart.

The first of many stops today was at Edmond North. The prized signee was cornerback Xavier Smith as he inked his name to play for Missouri.

Well, truth be told, he said he signed it at 7:01 a.m. Wednesday. Yea, I was still asleep at that time.

But Smith was one of 13 kids signing somewhere, and he was joined with two of his running mates in the secondary: Rickey Lawyer (NEO) and Brandon Downing (Washburn University).

The other big-time signee was kicker Austin Brasher, who signed with BYU.

- Great to see Casey Distaso sign with Georgetown. I’ll be going on year 3 as the tennis writer here shortly, and he has improved with each year in every way imaginable.

- The OU soccer program just got stronger with the additions of Camille Sanders and Carley Yates, two of the better players in the state.

EDMOND – Edmond North senior Xavier Smith has kind of been forgotten in the last couple of months.

When talking about big recruits, his name was left out of the conversation. Not because his play and potential didn’t warrant mentioning, but when you commit July 22, there isn’t much drama.

Smith committed to the University Missouri in the summer, never second-guessed his decision and wearing nothing but Mizzou colors, signed Wednesday morning at a ceremony at the North High gym.
