Deer Creek Boys (4-1)

There is just a different energy with this team, and it stems from first-year coach Matt Bailey. He’s brought a different approach, and the attitude is infectious.

The Antlers were the best overall team I saw this weekend because though Garrett Hermanski stole the show with 54 points in two games, you can see there are other pieces.

You can see that someone like senior Hayden Wagner or junior Jurrell Calloway have the potential to put up big numbers, and I like the way junior Jalen Burnett runs the team.

I know a lot was expected of the girls team (and still is), but I tell ya, it wouldn’t shock me to see the boys playing in the second week of March.

This weekend was crucial because both of the games were tossups late in the fourth quarter. And while it wasn’t always flashy, the Antlers got the job done vs. Millwood and OCS.

Deer Creek Girls (3-2)

Did not take long to see how much senior Christian Gilmore means to this team. I just have to get over the urge to type ‘Christina’ as her first name.

She came up big in her first game back from injury. But coach Totsy Manning isn’t taking any chances. In fact when I was talking to her, she made sure Gilmore was going to get iced down.

Senior A.J. Miller was sensational while I see why Kelsey Glover is considered the star. She commands a presence despite just being a sophomore.

Manning isn’t overly worried about anything as of this time just as long as the team can get healthy.
