Fun day of basketball at Guthrie for Super Saturday for the Suburban Conference. Or is it Suburban Conference Super Saturday? Whatever.
Either way, let’s break this up into two parts: girls and boys.
Girls
Fifth place: Shawnee 43, Western Heights 35
Third place: Carl Albert 36, Piedmont 18
Championship: Harrah 46, Deer Creek 41
Harrah 46, Deer Creek 41
First time I’ve seen Harrah and must say, I was pretty impressed. A phenomenal balance although both teams didn’t play their best in this one.
I remembered Kalie Lucas from last year, so I was expecting big things from her. But junior Chelsea Robinson kept making big shot after big shot.
And then you have the Hobbs’ twins (Jordan and Jessica) to go with Kayla Thomas, and what do you have? A serious threat to win 4A and the best team in the Suburban Conference.
The Antlers looked confused in the first half and it showed with ‘em trailing 21-14 at halftime. The second half was a lot more fun with both teams taking jabs at each other.
Harrah had an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter before DCreek made a run. This was the most aggressive I’ve seen Kelsey Glover for the Antlers. She led with 11 points but consistently drove it hard to the hole.
Freshman Ashley Gibson scored all of her points in the second half and tied the game at 40-40 with 2 minutes left. But Robinson kept it together for the Panthers.
