Kennedy became the first state champion in the history of the Norman Noreth wrestling program, taking the 125-pound title Saturday at State Fair Arena.

Kennedy upset Tulsa Union’s Brian Crutchmer 6-2 in the final. Kennedy picked a perfect time to peak  —  it was his first win over Crutchmer in three tries this season.

Boys basketball

Schaefer led the Timberwolves to a regional championship over the weekend with a pair of strong games.

In Thursday’s opening-round 73-60 win over Sand Springs, Schaefer scored a team-high 18 points. Two days later, he led the T-Wolves to the title and into the area final with a 63-59 victory over Putnam City North. Schaefer scored 22 in the win over the Panthers.
