Ah, that first sun of the spring is coming back to bite me right now. I’m red and hurtin’ all over but have no fear as I can still type.

Let’s start a team-by-team look of the Edmond and private schools at the Heritage Hall Tournament of Champions with the boys’ champions: Edmond North.

Going in, thought this would be a battle between North, Union and Putnam North. The Huskies are a funny team because I’m not sure if there is a championship-caliber player on the squad.

What they lack in standouts they more than make up for with a complete and balanced team. You could see it at the tournament where the No. 1s placed third and the No. 2s placed second.

I was impressed by freshman Nate Roper. In such a big spot at No. 1 singles and was incredible, defeating two solid players in Carl Albert’s Austin Manger and Metro Christian’s Jason Proctor.

There were a lot of new challenges out there, but I felt like I played good and had some real good matches. It was fun to be a part of this.” – Roper

The elephant in the room is Casey Distaso. Coach Dee Wallar declined to comment on Distaso’s situation this weekend. With Distaso, a strong team only gets stronger. Without him, well, we’re already seeing what they can do.
