Odd weekend in the high school tennis world. A lot of weekend competitions weren’t what they could have been because of either ACT testing or prom.

At the Ada Tournament, it was Edmond North standing strong in both the boys and girls. The North and Memorial boys look to be 1a. and 1b. at this point.

The Huskies edged the Bulldogs (55-53) in Ada, paced by a No. 2 doubles title by Alex Mathieson and Baylor Spring. Memorial received a No. 2 singles championship from Bowen Xu.

The problem with trying to see the teams is the travel, and Memorial coach Randy Mays explained that to me. Yes, Memorial and North (and Santa Fe, for that matter) could play each other every week and further develop the rivalry.

But the atmosphere they’re trying to create is an ‘us vs. them’ attitude of west vs. east, and that’s why the Edmond teams (and a lot of others ones) aren’t afraid to travel. Plus, it gives you a chance to see the best and to figure out how to set your lineup.
