Irish: Alexa Gonce video...

I’ll be knee-deep in tennis and slowpitch softball when the state soccer tournament rolls around, but I sure would like to see Deer Creek and Bishop McGuinness girls play again.
Of course, Bishop Kelley might have something to say about that as a couple of Comet supporters have pointed out to me, but that’s a trio of teams to keep tabs on, for sure.
A couple of people remarked that I didn’t think Deer Creek was all that good. I’ll tell ya what impressed me most about that team was how YOUNG it is and yet how good the girls are.
Looking up and down over who I thought played well (again, my definition is probably different than someone with soccer expertise) almost every single girl that made me take a double take was either a sophomore (Allison Worsham, Madi Smith, Holly Blackwell, Roman Edwards) or junior (Emily Hartshorn, Arianna Pugliese)…that’s scary.
It was a great crowd and great atmosphere for the 3-2 Irish overtime victory as Alexa Gonce scored the game-winner with 5:35 left in the golden goal portion.
Before Tuesday’s game, the teams had combined to give up JUST one goal in the eight matches they’ve played in April…insane.
Anyway, here is a short video with Gonce following the win.
