West Metro POWs: Chris Haworth and Kole Melton, PC North tennis
The spring season is winding down and you can tell there are going to be lots of state championship contenders in the West Metro. Our Players of the Week are a couple of them.
Chris Haworth continues to dominate for the Putnam City North tennis team at No. 1 singles, winning again this week at Duncan. But a key piece in the Panthers’ state tournament hopes is No. 2 singles player Kole Melton.
At Duncan, Melton earned a top finish, which put the Panthers tied with Jenks for the team title.
Both of these guys will be in the mix down the stretch, and it should be fun to watch.
Other contenders:
June Tigert and Charter Lawson, Mustang girls golf: Looking more and more like an unstoppable force, the Mustang girls golf team finished with the top score at its eighth straight tournament last Thursday at Lake Hefner North. Tigert was second individually at 77 and Lawson third at 78.
Kyle Covey, PC North baseball: Covey drove in the winning run as No. 8 PC North knocked off No. 6 Yukon on Tuesday in a crucial top-10 matchup.
Ty Hill, Yukon baseball: Hill had a spectacular outing at the Northwest Optimist Tournament, including a five-hit, four RBI performance in a 10-2 win over Norman on Thursday.
Shaydestiny Johnson and Jamee Moore, PC girls track: Running against one of the deepest fields before the state meet, Johnson won the 100 meters in 12.07 seconds at the Edmond North Invitational on Friday. Moore was second in both the 100 and 200.
