Roles reversed as Norman girls fall
Eventually, the tide had to turn. After years of sending Mustang into the offseason, Norman’s girls soccer team came up on the wrong end of a match with the Broncos.
Mustang got a historical monkey off its back with a 3-1 victory over longtime nemesis Norman Tuesday in the opeing round of the Class 6A girls soccer playoffs.
Mustang moved to 14-1 and will meet Westmoore in Friday’s quarterfinal round. But to get there the Broncos had to beat a team that knocked them out of the playoffs seven times in a 10-year span and once (from 1991-1995) ended Mustang’s season five straight years by a combined score of 30-0.
Tuesday, Tyler Barajas scored a goal and had an assist, while Bailey Boulware scored her 20th goal of the season and Alissa Jones had two assists.
Perennial power Norman stayed even with the Broncos in the first half as Lauren Goodman scored off an assist from Mackenzie Burkhart. The seven-time state champion Tigers close the season at 10-4.
