Southmoore’s Ethan Baker always hoped he would get the chance to compete for an NCAA Division I school. He just thought his chance would come in football.

On Wednesday, the two-time 400-meter state champion signed a letter of intent to run for the Big 12 Conference champion Nebraska track team.

“I’m real excited,” he said. “I always thought I’d go D-I, I just didn’t think it would be for track. God works in mysterious ways.”

In addition to winning the 400 two years straight, Baker was on the SaberCats’ 400 and 1,600 relay teams that helped them win the Class 6A team championship on Monday.
