Now that we’ve all had a chance to collectively catch our breaths following the spring championships, time to dive right in to the spring football scene.
Spent Monday at two of the Edmond spots, Memorial and Santa Fe. Two teams that are about as different as can be at this juncture.
Memorial is right on schedule, said second-year coach Justin Merideth. They’ve been alternating between days of implementing new things on offense and executing them.
And as expected, Merideth said the first day is a little rough, but the kids tend to get good grasp on that second day.
The Bulldogs are going to close up shop Wednesday before heading to the Tulsa camp next week.
The biggest thing to look for is a more explosive offense. Senior quarterback Kameron Doolittle gets a little excited when talking about it. Team feels like it finally has the personnel to be known as more than just a power running team anchored by a strong defense.
Between Doolittle and running back Cale Olbert, that’s a solid nucleus returning. Merideth believes that are some great playmakers coming up as well as a few track stars who are getting their feet wet in football.
Defensively, it all starts with Connor Myers. “He’s our rock,” Merideth said. Myers is going to the cornerstone of the defense, but searching for a middle linebacker is going to be tough.
