If Memorial star Connor Myers was two inches taller, college scouts would be breaking down his door. Three inches, and they’d be stalking outside his house.
OK, maybe that’s a bit too far, but if Myers was blessed with more height, he would be receiving a lot more looks than what he is getting right now.
That’s not to say that the 6-foot-0 defensive tackle isn’t getting any looks because he is. He has an offer from Air Force and is receiving interest from a lot of northwest-area schools.
Myers is going to be a beast this year, pumped to watch him play. The numbers aren’t going to dazzle you at defensive tackle. You’re in the trenches, and you clog things up so the defensive ends and linebackers make the big plays and get on the highlights.
Even with that being said, Myers had 61 tackles and six sacks for one of the most stout defenses in the state.
Coach Justin Merideth’s eyes get real big when he starts talking about Myers. Merideth knew Myers was good last year, but he knows Myers will anchor the unit in the fall. Well, it’s started since after last season and Myers continues to show his character.
It’s funny to think of him competing in Taekwondo but that was his passion for seven years. I just can’t think of him fitting in one of those outfits with how big and bulky he is. It’s definitely helped his flexibility and footwork, though.
