Gotta be a good time to be a Norman North football fan, right? Ya know those kids are pumped to begin after ending last year on a five-game losing streak.

And the names are impressive. From LB Zac Pierce to QB Brad Valentino to RBs Raymond Demby and Emilio Gatewood (transfer from Millwood), Lance Manning has one stacked group of players.

Oh yea, and then there’s Daniel Davis – the crown jewel of the class. Davis has already committed to Stanford, and you could sense how much that has eased things for him this summer.

I’ve seen Davis play a couple of times and most recently at the Edmond North camp, and he really sticks out in a crowd. At defensive end, he bullies the offensive linemen and hits with force.

But on offense, it was that same determination to not be brought down that stood out. I shudder to even think about playing him in swimming pool basketball.

Davis isn’t alone as Sallisaw’s Garrett Gladd is also headed to Stanford and Davis said he’s been getting to know Gladd better through this process.

Davis (and well, the rest of this year’s crop of seniors) have been lurking in the shadows. This group is ready to make its own name. It’s going to start with Davis.
