OK Showdown: Closing thoughts...

That was a lot of fun, I will admit it. Had a blast covering the 7-on-7 Oklahoma Showdown at Edmond North this weekend. Midwest City and Atoka were your champions and here are some of my impressions.
Midwest City
No regrouping, simply reloading. This team looked the best the entire weekend. My MVP was WR Claude Donald, but Austin Roberson came up huge in the championship win vs. Edmond North. Bombers responded well to adversity in this one and quarterback Greg Austin is really developing into a top prospect. At this time last year, didn’t even know who he was. Tough to not look at the DBs in this type of setup and Ricky Reeves and Corey Lang had good weekends.
Edmond North
Running back Jared Benway needs to get healthy, suffered another nagging ankle injury. He will, of course, play a major role for this team. QB Travis Townsend is the most improved QB I’ve seen so far from last year. Really good balance in finding different receivers as MWC didn’t let Donquay Hammons make a big play. Townsend was not frazzled at all. I was right on the sideline, and Garrett Molinsky was out of bounds in the final minute of regulation. It was close, but he was out. Defensively, Camden Bohnert had a solid couple of days.
Edmond Santa Fe
The Wolves went from 0-2 to 7-3. Look out for WR Tre Kelley, he was incredible. He’s just going to be a junior, and he made some huge plays this weekend. The future looks incredibly bright (Phillip Sumpter, Shevin Smith) for Santa Fe, but this is a real young team. Good showing by Bruce Gowen’s boys.
Shawnee
Another pleasant surprise as this team is more than just Brayle Brown. Leon Davis had some huge moments though he was hampered by injuries. Coach Billy Brown was pleased as seven different receivers caught touchdowns this weekend. Didn’t bring that many guys but produced with who was there.
