When the Area Code baseball tournament begins Thursday in Long Beach, Calif., it will definitely have a familiar feel for some Edmond athletes.
Deer Creek’s Michael Fulmer and Brian Anderson, who both committed to Arkansas on Monday, will be joined three players from Edmond Santa Fe: Kyle Shaw, Clayton Blackburn and Ty Hensley.
“It’s great for these kids, and I think it says a lot about the quality of baseball that we play here in Oklahoma,” Deer Creek coach Ron Moore said.
All players on the roster had to be invited, and the Oklahoma players are representing the Chicago White Sox club that includes players from 11 different states.
Other Oklahomans on the roster include Norman North’s Caleb Simpson and Broken Arrow’s Mason Hope and Dylan Delso.
Hope and Blackburn have committed to Oklahoma while Hensley is one of only two juniors on the roster. The Area Code games began in 1985 and will run through Aug. 10.
