And football practice is officially underway. Star Spencer, the reigning 4A champs now playing in 3A, kicked it off tonight/this morning as the Bobcats got things rolling at midnight.
The new class isn’t the only change, of course, as the Bobcats have a new coach, Terrell Love, replacing Darrell Hall. Hall is now the head coach for Booker T.
We say new coach, but Love is definitely familiar with Star, having been an assistant there before becoming the head coach at US Grant last year.
So why the midnight practice:
We got to keep the fire and the passion going. We lost a lot of seniors and a lot of leaders. But I look out here and see how many showed up at midnight, I think that fire is there.” – Love
Love felt it all day, especially getting closer to practice as his leg just kept bouncing, he said. Wide receiver Stevo Henderson was in the same boat, saying there was no way he took a midday nap or anything like that.
No way. I was way too anxious for this. I’m a senior, now it’s time for me to be a leader.” – Henderson
The Bobcats won’t be doing this every night, but I love a night like this. Star will practice from 7 a.m. to noon with a one-hour break, beginning Wednesday.
I’ve been to Star plenty of times, but if you’ve never been, you would have been OK Monday night. Pitch black everywhere and then, boom, the stadium lights.
I wanted to stick around a little longer, but I got me an OSSAA board meeting to attend in the morning. However, there was some good food waiting for those kids, too.
