Always love a chance to see Guthrie coach Rafe Watkins and how his Bluejays are doing. Simple assessment: they’re doing just fine.

Got to the second part of Guthrie’s practice, it was a little weird set up. There wasn’t very much actual plays going on, a lot of instructions and how the defense should run.

However, still pretty easy to find Landry Chappell and Kentrell Brothers in a crowd. With them leading the defense, Jays should be fine.

On the flip side, excited to see how the Guthrie offense goes. Able to talk with sophomore quarterback Bryan Dutton following practice. Look for much more on Dutton in Friday’s paper.

I still can’t get over that he was just a freshman trying to lead one of the best 5A teams. And truth be told, he didn’t do that bad of a job.

Everyone involved is counting down the days to that Guthrie-Duncan showdown. Ooh boy, is that, not only going to be fun, but it will also tell us a lot about where some of the balance of power is in that class. Carl Albert-Booker T. is on the same night, unbelievably enough.

Look for a video with Dutton on NewsOK sometime later on Thursday afternoon.

Next stop: Santa Fe South. Saints might just surprise some people, especially with WR Abraham Luna.
