Choctaw trio highlight tourney team

All this summer has been a reunion for Rose State’s Dalton Bernardi and fellow Choctaw products Tanner Hessman and Josh Halbert in the American Legion baseball events as part of the Midwest City-based Oklahoma Outlaws squad.

The trio capped it off with not only the championship Tuesday night, but all three made the all-tournament team.

Bernardi, who was dominant during the American Legion World Series, was named the MVP of the tournament while Tecumseh’s Kevin Hill had 35 strikeouts in regional and Series play and earned the Strike Out Leader honor.

Bernardi was sensational in the final game, a 10-1 victory over Eden Prairie, Minn., driving in four runs and striking out the side in the ninth for the championship.

Dale’s Turner Coon also made the all-tournament team. The Outlaws finish the year at 66-10.

Halbert has signed with Wichita State while Hessman will be a senior this year.
