Good stuff early with Carl Albert and Del City and Owasso on Friday night at Carl Albert. Got a little testy toward the latter stages of the scrimmage between the Eagles and rival Midwest City (with a lot of players in attendance).

No harm, no foul. Just adding more fuel to a feud that doesn’t need any more fire when the teams meet in the season opener Sept. 3.

Eagles score on first play

Del City was fired up way before Friday night’s scrimmage against Owasso and Carl Albert at Carl Albert.

And it didn’t take long for the Eagles to strike. On their first play, quarterback and TCU commit Chazten Gonzales connected with senior Greg Johnson for a 65-yard touchdown to set the tone for the night.

“That wasn’t the play that we were supposed to be running, but I saw they had no safeties in the middle of the field,” Johnson said.

Del City coach Nick Warehime said he was pleased with the way the team ran to the ball defensively. The Eagles didn’t allow a score with their first team defense.

Titans come out healthy

It wasn’t better than what Carl Albert coach Gary Rose wanted, and it wasn’t worse. He was pleased the Titans came out healthy and liked the effort.

“The effort was definitely there tonight,” Rose said. “We have some depth issues and have to learn our assignments, but we played hard.”

The Titans were unable to score offensively, but running back Kenton Whittington did have a couple of solid carries.

Filling the gaps

Johnson a versatile threat for Eagles

The biggest question for the Del City offense entering the year is going to be who can fill the shoes of wide receivers Chris McAlister and Donavan Dan.
