Mustang at Yukon
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Miller Pride Stadium, Yukon

Why Mustang could win: The Broncos have high hopes of competing for a state title again this year, after an unexpected early exit from the playoffs last season. They’ve got big-time talent on offense, built around WR David Glidden and QB Brandon Taylor, and the defense looks to be pretty solid.

Why Yukon could win: Last year’s loss at Mustang stung the Millers after they played so well and couldn’t finish it off. This year, on the home turf, they don’t want to feel that again. The offensive line seems to be progressing and the defense has a lot of speed on the field, which will give them the ability to do some different things. With this being the 100th year of football in Yukon and the last year at the current stadium, the crowd will be even more jacked up than usual for this rivalry, and it probably trickles down to the players.

Key matchup: Yukon passing game vs. Mustang DBs. Mustang players feel the defense is ahead of where it was at this time a year ago, when Corben Jones burst onto the scene with a 400-yard, 7-TD passing performance against the Broncos. Jones has a ton of receivers to throw to in this offense, and they’ll need to take advantage of the experience in that group.
