Southmoore SaberCats (0-0) at Edmond North (0-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Where: UCO (Moore blogger Justin Hite will be there)
Southmoore (0-0)
Why the SaberCats can win: Playmakers, playmakers, playmakers and the SaberCats have plenty of them. With senior quarterback Kendal Thompson and junior running back Andrew Long in the offensive backfield Southmoore has two players that can take it to the house every play.
Edmond North (0-0)
Why the Huskies can win: Because North has bounced back after losing running back Jared Benway for the season. Jarion Tudman has a tough chore to start the year, but Travis Townsend is a year smarter at QB. He also has several WRs he can throw the ball to and keep Southmoore off balance.
Quote:
We’ve changed up our offense a little, and it’s made a big difference.” – Townsend
Key matchup: Southmoore running game vs. Edmond North defensive line. The defensive line is the best unit for the Huskies, but they have to replace Colton Byford at defensive end. Byford had 106 tackles last year and with a mobile quarterback like Thompson a strong defensive end is necessary.
Justin’s pick: Southmoore 31, Edmond North 13. There are just too many athletes for Edmond North to slow down. The Huskies will put up some points, but with the SaberCats will pull away in the second half.
Boneman’s pick: Southmoore 17, North 12. Think it’s going to be a bumpy night for both teams, but the SaberCats have enough weapons against a young North defense.
