FMQ: Heritage Hall 35, Casady 16...
By Robert Przybylo
Took us a little longer than anticipated, but we got there last night with Heritage Hall and Casady. The game was delayed for almost 80 minutes or so before we kicked off.
Once we did, found out just a little about how good this Heritage Hall team can possibly be this season.
Heritage 35, Casady 16
I expected Barry J. Sanders to have a big night for the Chargers. He did. His first several runs were so smooth, getting 10, 15 yards a carry. He lost a fumble inside the 10 yard line but that didn’t really deter him.
But what I really wanted to see was how the mix of Sterling Shepard and Cooper Cloud at quarterback was going to work. Turns out, it worked just fine.
Neither player seems too emotionally invested in the term ‘starter’ because they bring such different things to the table.
And you could argue the best play of the night was Cloud’s 36-yard touchdown pass to Shepard. Great play call, great execution, all that good stuff.
Shepard had a phenomenal game. He’s a tough, tough kid. He scored three times in three different ways. The first was a 25-yard rush that ended the scoreless streak Casady had against Heritage.
Then it was the reception, and he capped it off with an INT return to make it 35-7 at half. He gave all credit on that one to teammate Brandon Moews, who deflected it right into Shepard’s hands.
He added another pick in the third quarter. If he can stay healthy, college scouts are going to be busting down his door, too.
- Loved what I saw from Heritage’s Quintaz Struble. He had some monster hits on defense early in the game that really set the tone. He also had a nice reception in the third quarter. This is going to be the year where everyone learns how to spell his name.
