There were some good Mid-Del football performances in Week 1, but I know we’re going to see better. And right now, the Carl Albert softball team is on a huge roll.
Since losing the second game of the season against perennial power Moore, the Titans have rallied off 16 consecutive victories.
And might, just might be No. 1 in 5A when the new poll comes out Tuesday. Leading the charge is senior pitcher Whitney Robinson.
In three games last week, Robinson earned two victories and came on in relief in the other. But it’s not just in the circle where she is shining. Robinson is also the team’s best hitter with a .594 average and leads the teams in runs scored with 31. Robinson has earned the Mid-Del Player of the Week.
Other contenders
Chazten Gonzales, Del City, Football: Plagued by four turnovers, Gonzales did show signs of why he is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. He threw a TD in the 35-13 loss to Midwest City.
Trevon Lewis, James Flanders and Greg Austin, Midwest City, Football: Hard to pick between the three so all get nominated. Lewis dominated on defense while Flanders and Austin each accounted for two touchdowns.
Taylor Hawkins, Carl Albert, Football: Still rounding into football shape, Hawkins had the Titans sole touchdown in a tough 12-10 loss to Booker T.
Andrew Thompson and Jessica Green, Carl Albert, Cross Country: Thompson led the Titans to a seventh-place finish at the Edmond Santa Fe meet by placing 13th. Green paved the way to a 10th-place result for the girls.
Anyone else deserve recognition? Let me know.
