There should be a lot of tension at Moore Stadium on Friday night went Westmoore faces off against Southmoore. There will be a few serious enemies on the field.

“We are enemies on the field, but off the field we are really, really good friends,” Southmoore running back Andrew Long said.

There’s plenty to love above the Southwest Battle and most of that comes on the field. As a former athlete, I know there’s nothing better than beating you friend or “brother.” It’s strange to explain but the feeling of mutual respect after beating your best friend gives you a little something you don’t get from beating a hated rival.

Long is still good friends with Westmoore quarterback Trevor Thompson and many other Jaguars. But possibly the most intriguing “friendship” to watch Friday night will be between Westmoore defensive end/offensive tackle Tyler Newton and Southmoore quarterback Kendal Thompson. Newton and Kendal Thompson have played together since Newton was at Brink Junior High and Kendal was at Moore West.
