Moore: Lions persevering through tough losses...
By Justin Hite
Moore jumped out to a 7-0 lead Friday. Then they lost it just before halftime and fell behind in the second half. But late in the game, the Lions had another chance to win the game. After intercepting a screen pass, they came up just inches short on a fourth-and-one try in Norman territory.
It was strange to talk to Moore coach Scott Myers this week. Even though his team is coming off back-to-back narrow defeats, he’s surprisingly upbeat.
“The kids continued to get better,” Myers said. “We just have to find a way to go score. Anytime you give up 13 points, you should win a ball game.”
There’s plenty of reason to be upbeat in Moore. Despite being 0-2, the Lions are already miles ahead of where they were last season. They held a lead against Norman — something that hasn’t been done in a while at Moore — and the Lions continue to improve. It’s safe to say that losing this way isn’t hurting the Lions.
“They can see the difference in where they were at last year — not being competitive,” Myers said. “We were only in two or three ball games total as far as being competitive. Right now, we feel like there’s two ball games out there that, a couple of different things happen, and we win the ball game. Their confidence is coming and believing in what they do. They are confident in their abilities.”
