Millwood: Shevin Patton should be fine

The leg injury that kept Millwood’s Shevin Patton on the sideline for much of the second half of the Falcons’ 36-31 win over Douglass shouldn’t keep him out of yet another big game.

Patton had rushed for 41 yards before the injury Saturday. He has been a key piece in the Falcons’ potent offense, which is averaging 41 points per game so far. Patton has 202 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries for the season.

The Falcons, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, host 4A No. 2 Bishop McGuinness at 7 p.m. Friday at Leodies Robinson Field.

Patton is a dangerous player with the ball in his hands, and he’s a vital part of making the Millwood offense go. He’s Kevonte Richardson’s best friend, because he can take pressure off the passing game and open some running lanes for the QB as well.

If Patton is limited this week, Allen Starks should be able to fill in well. He’s not quite as dangerous, but he runs hard and the coaches like him. And don’t be surprised to see Josh Turner or Mike Cole get some carries, too.
