Westmoore: Rivalries out of the way...
By Justin Hite
This week will be different for Westmoore. The Jaguars are finally finished with all versions of the Moore War.
After facing Moore and Southmoore in the first two weeks of the season, Westmoore will host Norman North on Thursday at Moore Stadium.
Westmoore coach Billy Langford went through his first Moore War this year and although he enjoyed it, he’s happy to get on with the rest of the season.
“We are ready to move on a put that all behind us,” he said. “We’ve had two good weeks. They were both fun weeks. … You don’t want to get too high or too low, but it’s difficult with the two Moore War games.”
There’s plenty of reason to be happy to be out of rivalry week. On the field, there’s still a game to be played. The difference is in a rivalry week is all that other stuff — speeches, pep rallies, hype and total involvement with the community. There’s a little bit of that in other weeks, but it’s nothing like during Moore War.
Langford and the Jaguars’ coaching staff will learn one thing this weekend though. Can Westmoore get up for a non-rivalry game?
“It’ll be different this week as far as not having a rival,” Langford said. “We just need to make sure we challenge our kids to not have a let down after two emotional weeks.”
