Welcome to the Friday Morning Quarterback….Today’s edition: Sapulpa vs. Southmoore.

Southmoore 51, Sapulpa 27

Amid all of the problems that Southmoore went through, there was plenty to be pleased about. The SaberCats outplayed themselves and, it may not seem so from the final score, but this one was a lot closer than it looked. Without a few key stops from the Southmoore defense and some great field position for its offense, Southmoore could have been in a dogfight that it probably shouldn’t have.

Southmoore fell back into some old bad habits, but was eventual able to lean on junior running back Andrew Long. Long, along with backup running back Karltrell Henderson took over the game in the fourth quarter.

Southmoore breakdown: There was plenty of reason for concern for Southmoore coach Chris Jensen. As a team, there were way too many penalties and fumbles. Those two issues had disappeared last week against Muskogee, and Jensen seemed surprised they came back. Southmoore committed 12 penalties for 125 yards and lost two fumbles.

With all the team issues and struggles Southmoore went through, there were plenty of bright spots. Every unit had its ups and downs. The special teams scored a touchdown on a punt return and blocked two extra points. Even after Travis Burge muffed two punts, he did a stellar job rebounding and in his own words “forgetting” about his mistakes.
