I had it wrong in Friday’s paper. I apologize.

Southmoore player’s hearing issued a continuance

A hearing regarding a Southmoore football player’s eligibility was issued a continuance, Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association executive secretary Ed Sheakley said Friday morning.

The hearing concerning Austin Brooks’ eligibility was supposed to be Friday at the Cleveland County courthouse, but the continuance was issued Wednesday.

“As of yesterday (Thursday), we are not sure why the continuance was issued nor when the case will be rescheduled,” Sheakley said.

Brooks’ hardship appeal was denied by the OSSAA Board of Directors in August. A temporary injunction was issued Sept. 1 that has allowed Brooks to play football for the SaberCats this season.

Brooks has already been eligible for four fall semesters and was ruled ineligible despite the extenuating circumstances of his situation. Brooks has only been eligible for three spring semesters and is cleared to run track this season.
