The Westmoore Jaguars defense is gaining confidence just they prepare to face one of the fastest teams they’ll see all season in Del City on Thursday. After back-to-back shutouts, coach Billy Langford sees a lot of promise in his defense, no matter whom they face.

“I hope that gives them the confidence to know that if we go out there and everyone gets aligned properly and the D is in place, we have a chance to be really good defensively no matter who we going up against,” Langford said.

Westmoore (3-2) has faced plenty of opponents with speed. The Jaguars faced Southmoore in Week 2 and Langford ran two separate scout teams at his defense. This week, Langford is taking a few extra measures with his scout unit.

He’s stacking all of his fastest players, who aren’t on the first-team defense, on his scout team offense.

Against Southmoore, the Jaguars led and stayed with the SaberCats until late. They’ll have to hope they are as well prepared this week as they have in the past.

“We kind of just leave it up to the scout guys to give us a good look on defense,” defensive end Tyler Newton said. “We’ve played teams that are pretty fast, so we know kind of what to look for. We kind of know what to look for and know what it takes to stop them.”
