Star Spencer (1-4, 1-1) at Perkins-Tryon (5-0)
When:
7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Perkins High School

Last week: Star Spencer suffered a 27-6 setback against Bristow. Perkins routed Little Axe 42-14.

Why Star could win: This team isn’t as bad as it played last week, or as bad as its record would suggest. It seemed like the Bobcats were getting on track in the district opener, so this might be a good week for a bounce-back performance.

Why Perkins could win: The Demons are rolling. Only one of their wins has been by fewer than 11 points, that being a 19-14 win against 2A power Jones. And Perkins has yet to allow more than 14 points in a game, so if they can make some big stops early, it could hurt the confidence of the young star offense.

Quote: “They’re the best 1-4 team I’ve ever seen. We’ve got our work cut out for us.” – Perkins-Tryon coach Lloyd Wertman on Star Spencer

Key matchup: Star linebackers vs. Perkins wishbone. Wertman’s teams always run the ‘bone well, so it’ll be up to the Bobcat LBs, led by Kenneth Davis — who has been playing extremely well lately — to keep it contained.

The pick: Perkins 21, Star 18. The Demons are looking like the team to beat in this district.
