For even more on this game, check out my piece from Wednesday’s paper. It was really fun watching Kentrell Brothers and Dwight Dobbins interact for our photoshoot. Two days away.

How good has this rivalry been since Rafe Watkins took over at Guthrie in 2001? Watkins is 5-4 against Carl Albert coach Gary Rose, and we’ve seen some dang good games and memorable moments:
2009: Carl Albert 40, Guthrie 14
Guthrie has not forgotten about this beatdown in its backyard. Tre’ Porter had four touchdowns for the Titans, who led 33-0 at halftime.
2008: Carl Albert 16, Guthrie 13
“The Jersey Switch.” Daytawion Lowe, who normally wore No. 8, came out in No. 85 for the first play and caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from J.T. Realmuto for Carl Albert.
2007: Guthrie 24, Carl Albert 21
Carl Albert’s David Oku and Guthrie’s Kye Staley headlined the show, but it was the efforts of Keaton Callins and Clayton Smith that gave the Bluejays the win.
2006: Carl Albert 26, Guthrie 21
Carl Albert quarterback Joe Stoner converted a fourth-and-one from CA’s own 28-yard line in final minute to preserve victory.
2005: Guthrie 33, Carl Albert 14
It was the Bryce Gates show as the Guthrie quarterback threw for four touchdowns and rushed for more than 100 yards.
2004: Carl Albert 25, Guthrie 7
Titans scored all 25 points after halftime to end three-game losing streak to Guthrie. The win marked Gary Rose’s 100th victory at Carl Albert.
2003: Guthrie 28, Carl Albert 21
Guthrie backup quarterback Josh Chappell threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns in the upset win.
2002: Guthrie 22, Carl Albert 19, OT
Guthrie kicker Russell Rush did it again. Rush converted field goal in overtime, and Kyle Smith recovered a fumble on Carl Albert’s overtime possession.
