Southmoore: Season on the line Thursday...
By Justin Hite
With the Southmoore SaberCats facing a must-win situation if they want to have a chance of making the playoffs, coach Chris Jensen was very specific about what his team was facing.
“When we lost to Muskogee we were at the must-win point every step of the way from there,” he said. “We are still at that point. You have to win every game you play at this stage of the game especially sitting where we are.”
The key word there is was.
Southmoore is out of the playoffs right now with the best team in Class 6A ahead of them. That’s not a good sign for the SaberCats. Not only because they are out of the playoffs, but also because Muskogee — the team in the fourth spot — is one game ahead of Southmoore. The Roughers also beat the SaberCats earlier this season. Making things even worse is the Roughers’ schedule. They play Putnam City West and Sapulpa sandwiching a game against Norman. Muskogee likely walks way with a 2-1 record from that stretch.
Southmoore, on the other hand, faces Shawnee and PC West after Jenks to close the year — likely another 2-1 record.
That leaves Southmoore out of the playoffs. The SaberCats have two choices: Beat Jenks or hope that Muskogee gets upset along the way. Either way the SaberCats only have one way to do things.
“All I can ask for the guys is to prepare the way we can — prepare to win — like we try to do every week and lay it on the line,” Jensen said.
This week, Southmoore lays its whole season on the line.
