Westmoore set a lot of goals this season. I caught up with coach Billy Langford as he prepared for Friday’s game against Mustang and we talked about those goals.

They are as follows:

Beat Moore … Check.

Beat Southmoore … Missed

Get to the playoffs … Just about check

Host a home playoff game … We’ll find out this week

Win the district … Still in the Jaguars’ control

“We had goals that we set early, when I first got here and those have been the goals the whole time,” he said. “Are we surprised? No. Are we glad the way it’s worked out so far? Sure we are. We’re not surprised. We think we’re as good as anyone around.”

I tend to think the same thing. And I’m not the only one. Scott Wright saw the Jaguars play for the first time last Friday and he seemed to come away quiet impressed.

The Jaguars play defense just as good as any other team in Class 6A outside of Jenks and Union. Their running game is very strong and as long as they don’t hurt themselves there’s no reason to think they can’t make a run in the playoffs.

But with everything ahead of them the only people that might be in the way is themselves. This is new ground for Westmoore. Last year, this team only won 3 games.

“This senior group hasn’t won a whole lot of games, to be honest with you,” Langford said. “They are just enjoying it. The coaches are enjoying it. We’re still trying to get better and still have a lot of young kids.”
