Southmoore SaberCats (4-4) at Shawnee (3-5)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Jim Thorpe Stadium, Shawnee

Southmoore (4-4)
Why the SaberCats can win
: Returns. There are two key ones that should be happening this week. One, quarterback Kendal Thompson should finally return to action this week after missing the SaberCats’ season and watching Southmoore fall out of the playoffs. Also, the SaberCats should return to form. The same form that helped Southmoore begin the season 4-1.

Shawnee (3-5)
Why the Wolves can win:
Tradition. Shawnee has plenty of tradition outside of Class 6A, but this is the Wolves’ chance to start one in Class 6A. Right now, the tradition is giving Putnam City West its first win in a long time.

Key matchup: Southmoore’s resolve vs. Shawnee’s opportunity. We all know that Southmoore has lost three straight games and is all but out of the playoffs. So with likely two games left in the season, what does Southmoore play for? It’s all about pride and Shawnee has a great chance to pull an upset of last year’s semifinalist — down year or not for Southmoore.

The pick: Southmoore 42, Shawnee 17. There’s a lot of pride in Southmoore and if the SaberCats need any bigger of a push, Kendal Thompson should be back.
