West Metro Speed Read: To Week 10... and beyond!
Yes, I bought my 20-month-old son the “Toy Story 3″ DVD when it came out on Tuesday. And yes, we’ve watched it already — multiple times — which is probably why this blog headline came so naturally. So let’s fly through the Speed Read like Buzz Lightyear. Or Slinky Dog, if you prefer. (Boneman’s note: I bought Toy Story 3…for myself. Slinky rulz! Lots-O’ is misunderstood.)
This Speed Read will take a look at what Week 10 means to the teams still alive in the playoff hunt and what will be in store for them in the postseason — you know, the “and beyond” part.
Yukon
Week 10: The No. 2 spot is sewn up, so the Millers are just playing for the gratification of a 9-1 season, and to keep their momentum going into Week 11. Their game still has an impact on the playoff race, but we’ll get to that in the PC North section.
… and beyond: If Edmond North wins at home against US Grant Thursday night, the Huskies will come to Yukon for the first round of the playoffs. If North loses, it could be Westmoore, Del City or Putnam City visiting Miller Pride Stadium.
PC North
Week 10: Most importantly, the Panthers have to beat Choctaw. If they don’t nothing else matters. But if they do that, it’s time for some scoreboard watching. PC North needs Yukon to beat Edmond Memorial and Midwest City to beat Norman North. The last possible scenario to get the Panthers in requires them to win, Memorial to lose and a Norman North victory in which it gains fewer than seven district points on PC North.
… and beyond: A trip to Lawton would be waiting for the Panthers if they get in. They lost a heartbreaker there in Week 9 last season, and went down there for a scrimmage in August, just for the experience of traveling, because coach Bob Wilson knew there might be a road trip in their playoff future.
