There’s a confidence brewing in Moore that is on the verge of bubbling over. After three straight weeks of 300-plus offensive yards and a 40-point burst that nearly won the Moore Lions their first game of the season, Scott Myers and company are feeling pretty good.

The Lions went down 13-0 early and came back to take a 14-13 lead. Then Putnam City North went back up by two touchdowns. Earlier in the year, Moore probably would have folded. The Lions would have given in and hung up the towel — content with the loss.

It was different Friday.

“It was more like, when are we going to score again,” Myers said. “We were fixing to score again. We were in the mentality that the points were going to keep coming.”

Moore (0-9) is finally starting to piece together an offense against teams that can compete for a Class 6A playoff spot. Putnam City North could be the No. 4 seed in Class 6A-1.

This week Moore plays Lawton Ike, the No. 3 seed in the same district. Moore seems to have an offense in hand, but it may just be a few weeks too late. Still the Lions have learned — and proved — that they can stick with a handful of teams.

“That’s where we’ve got our mindset,” Myers said.
