Donovan Roberts adds Pittsburgh to offer total

I remember talking to Norman football coach Greg Nation at our all-state media day in December and wondering when will the recruiting interest pick up for star running back Donovan Roberts?

Um, I don’t have to wonder anymore. Pittsburgh becomes the latest big-time program to offer the Norman junior. What I find interesting has been the wide variety of schools showing interest.

He’s not just a regional prospect. In fact, Roberts wasn’t really a regional pick until just recently. It was the big uglies in the Big Ten that reached out to Roberts first. Roberts has offers from Indiana and Michigan in the Big Ten. Add in Arizona in the Pac-10. Iowa State and Kansas State in the Big 12. Pittsburgh in the Big East and Roberts also has an offer from Tulsa.

We are a long way from having to do 6A rankings for the preseason, but I admit Norman, with Roberts leading the charge, is definitely looking like it will crack my top 10.

Roberts is No. 5 on our Super 30 for the 2012 class. You’ve heard me gush about the top five enough (Barry J. Sanders, Alex Ross, Cayman Bundage, Sterling Shepard) that I don’t know if I could make a change in the top five, but Roberts is certainly showing he belongs in that top tier.
